Waterblean is a traditional Cumbrian farm situated at the edge of the Lake District National Park on the Duddon Estuary, within sight of the Coniston Fells.
The land is within an Environmentally Sensitive Area and the Duddon Estuary is a Designated Site of Scientific Interest, a Special area of Conservation and a Special Protection Area for wild birds. There is also a natterjack toad conservation area on the marsh that we help to manage.
The farm, which sits in a sheltered spot protected from the prevailing south-westerly winds, has a good range of traditional stone and slate buildings and we are proud of the way we have maintained these over the years.
At Waterblean we do not farm intensively but strive to promote the health of both the land and livestock and to encourage bio-diversity. We actively maintain walls, hedges and trees as a vital part of the landscape.
